Time to Ball in the Fall

With fall sports just getting started, teams for the Kent County Trojans are off to a rough start. With varsity field hockey and girls soccer jumping off to the best starts with both sports having a 2-3 record in their first five games, varsity boys soccer struggles with a 0-4-1 record.

Kent County High’s varsity field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer teams faced a rough schedule for recently played games, against North Dorchester, North Caroline, and St. Michaels. Field hockey and boys soccer played these matches at their home field at KCHS, while girls soccer traveled to North Caroline to take them on in enemy territory.

The varsity field hockey team came out victorious against St. Michaels with a score of 3-1. With recent success I interviewed senior captain Ally Hickman to get some inside information on the team and their goals for this season. When asked, Ally had to say: “Our goal this year is to return to the regional championship and win this time. After a hard loss last year to Chrisfield, I’m confident in our team as we still have a really good core of girls that are motivated to win”.

The varsity girls soccer team sadly fell to the North Caroline Bulldogs with a score of 0-11. With this short span of struggling going on during their season, I decided to interview junior captain Olivia Jones on how they plan to overcome this. “I would say our team goal for the season is to make it far in the playoffs and we know that to do that we have to learn how to work together as a unit and push each other to be the best we can be” said Olivia.

The varsity boys soccer team notched their first win against North Dorchester, coming out on top with a score of 4-1. While falling to Cambridge on the Tuesday before, the KCHS Trojans sit on a record of 1-5-1. I interviewed my teammate and senior captain Ryan Argo about the recent struggle and what the team goals are for the season. He had to say: “The team wants to win games that have been hard for us to win in the past, and we can achieve this by working and hustling as hard as we can to win. We face St. Michaels and Pocomoke this upcoming week and if we play how we did against North Dorchester, we can start to turn the season around with a 3-5-1 record.

Will these teams continue to battle and improve their record? Do they have what it takes to go far in the playoffs and contend for that regional title? Find out on the next issue of The Trojan Times news.
