One King, One Queen, One Dream

With homecoming around the corner, it’s the talk of the school. Who’s going to be attending? Is it lame or is it cool? With all the activities offered during homecoming week, from powderpuff and the football game to spirit week, the pep rally and the dance, this time of year can be exciting for many.

I went to the halls to get the inside scoop on some of the homecoming king and queen candidates.

There’s homecoming queen candidate Ally Hickman who is running because she wants to have unforgettable memories her senior year with some of her best friends. Ally is a three sport athlete, participating in varsity field hockey, softball, and basketball. Ally stays involved around the school by participating in activities such as spirit week and football games. Ally believes she stands out from the rest of the candidates by being the only committed division 1 athlete in the school, this shows her dedication to work hard and be successful.

There’s homecoming queen candidate Mallory Helfenbein who is running because she thinks it’s a great opportunity for college applications and she has always wanted to be homecoming queen. Mallory represents the school by being involved in academics, clubs, and is also a three sport athlete. Mallory believes she stands out from the rest of the candidates because she can offer something for every aspect of hoco queen.

There’s homecoming king candidate Mayowa Taiwo who is running because ever since freshman year he’s made sure to stay involved in school whether it’s in terms of school spirit, participating in pep rallies, and supporting his peers at sports events. Mayowa feels that homecoming court is for someone that represents the school, remains involved throughout the building, and is outgoing. Mayowa believes he stands out from the rest of the candidates because even with a tight schedule, being involved in many clubs, and being a three sport athlete he still manages to make time in giving back to his community and shows his Trojan pride wherever he goes.

There’s homecoming king candidate Ryan Argo who is running because being homecoming king means that you’ve been an all around good high school student for the past few years. Ryan represent the school by being apart of multiple sports and clubs. Ryan plays football while also playing soccer during the same season so he think it shows how committed he is to school sports. Ryan believes he stands out from the rest of the candidates because he is the only four sport varsity athlete in the school.

Many qualifications go into what it takes to win homecoming court, and there are many things that make the candidates different from one another. The winners will be decided on Oct. 25 during halftime of the Kent County High School football game where the Trojans will take on Washington at 7:00 p.m. The winners will get crowned in front of the entire school and will have a special dance with each other at homecoming on Oct. 26.

Who will be crowned? Who's dreams will come true? Find out Friday the 25th.
